Dear Copper Mesa Community,
I am beginning to write this week's blast as I am glancing at the beautiful sunrise, checking out the blossoms forming on trees, and listening to the birds chirping! Spring is my favorite time of year!
This week I will mention the following:
-
Silent Auction
-
Fence Around Turf
-
Solar Eclipse
-
Young Ameritowne
-
Learning Styles
-
National Library Week
SILENT AUCTION
Last Saturday night was awesome, and a huge shout out to our amazing CMEA group for hosting a Silent Auction. We had a wonderful turnout of parents and staff members and everyone enjoyed a yummy Italian meal, some music trivia, and the chance to bid on auction items! We also had lots of parents bidding on items from the comfort of their homes. Because of your generosity, our students will be able to enjoy a new piece of playground equipment next school year.
FENCE
As you probably know, our students love using our turf field during recess, after school, and on weekends. I am so thankful for CMEA and their fundraising efforts which enabled us to purchase the turf. What you may not know is that every day we have soccer and footballs going over the split rail fence and at times headed down the street. To prevent any safety issues, an 8-foot, black galvanized steel fence will replace the split rail fence this summer.
SOLAR ECLIPSE
Many of our students joined their parents outside to view the solar eclipse on Monday. For those students who remained inside, teachers had it displayed on their screens. I know many classes also talked about it. A huge shout out to our office staff who did a remarkable job of getting you all checked in and out for a few minutes. We also delayed CMAS testing in the afternoon for a bit so students could head back to their classes.
YOUNG AMERITOWNE
On Tuesday our fifth and sixth graders attended Young Ameritowne. This is always a highlight of our intermediate students. My children, who are all now in their 20s, still talk about their experience and I bet some of you still remember it! Students learn so much from this experience. So many real-life learning opportunities that they will always remember and also apply as they grow up. Thanks to all of the parents who helped with interviews and attended the field trip!! A special thanks also to our fifth and sixth-grade teachers for making this experience remarkable for our students!
LEARNING STYLES
One more reminder that you are welcome to email me your child’s preferred learning style and environment, this will be taken into consideration when forming class lists. You can also share who your children would benefit from being in class with. As I am sure you can understand, having only two sections in each grade level again next year makes it difficult to honor requests. Please do not email me specific teacher requests, I am unable to honor them. Please share your thoughts with me by email before April 22nd.
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
This week has been National Library Week. What a great time to take your kiddos to the library to check out some books. Of course, they can also check out books at CME!! I am so thankful that we have an awesome library, full of outstanding literature and that we have a wonderful librarian in Mrs. Troxel. She is so passionate about literacy and I love watching her read a story with your children! We also have wonderful senior volunteers who love helping out in the library!! It’s also National Librarian Day on April 16th!!
I will not be writing a blast next week as I will be in Texas for my daughter's wedding. I will share some photos with you all when I return!!
