News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

Wow, can you believe it is already May? And just think, we only have 15 days of school remaining. It seems like yesterday that the 2023/24 school year began! Our Principal for the Day wrote the first two articles below - and, may I say, he did a fabulous job!!

  • Administrator for the Day

  • Pinocchio Play

  • John Irwin Award

  • Hex Meet

  • SSN Field Trip

ADMINISTRATOR FOR THE DAY

Today I, Beaux Prellwitz, have been the Principal for the day. I've been chosen as principal because my parents won an auction. So far I shared some Words of Wisdom for morning announcements, moved chairs, told everyone about a secure perimeter drill, and had to log the drill. I delivered the spirit stick which you can only get if you get a high percentage of people participating during the spirit day. It's been such a great day so far. A great thing I did later is that I read with a first grader named Wyatt a book about dinosaurs and he knew a lot more about dinosaurs than me so that was super awesome.

PINOCCHIO PLAY

Monday morning we saw the best play in the world, the Pinocchio play. The Pinocchio play taught 3 different lessons, being brave, to be unselfish, and to tell the truth which is important for all ages. It was put on by Douglas County Libraries so go show them some appreciation.

JOHN IRWIN AWARD

I am truly honored to be a part of such a fabulous school. For the second year in a row, Copper Mesa has earned the John Irwin Award for Academic Excellence! I am so proud of our students, every staff member, and of course all of you for being awesome!! As I write this Beaux shared with me the wonderful job he did on the end-of-year iReady Reading Diagnostic. Way to go to Beaux and all of our students!

HEX MEET

Tomorrow several of our sixth graders will be participating in our district’s annual Hexathlon. They will be competing with hundreds of other sixth graders from various elementary schools in our district. Several mornings recently I have seen them running around our building to prepare for the meet. A huge shout-out to Ms. Higgins and Mr. Novak for working with our students! I am sure they will do great tomorrow!

SSN FIELD TRIP

On Wednesday, May 1st, our SSN students participated in an event put on by Jeffco's adaptive physical education program called Tournament of Champions. The program has many elementary schools within Jeffco participate in physical activities such as 10, 25, and 50-meter races, along with many other adaptive events. Our SSN program was honored to be invited to this event for the 3rd year in a row. Students participate in these events at Gold Crown Field House and they are all cheered on and rewarded with ribbons for the valiant efforts they put in at the program. All of our students came back to school happy, proud, and exhausted as did the staff who accompanied them. Our SSN students are thankful to have been invited and look forward to returning to this special event again next year.

Have a wonderful weekend.
