News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

I felt like I would be blown away to Kansas this week with the crazy winds we had on Monday and Tuesday. Fortunately, the winds have passed, and we are enjoying some cooler May weather.

This week I will mention the following:

  • Mr. Getchell Day

  • Pedestrian Safety

  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation

  • Staff Assignments

  • iReady End of the Year Diagnostic

  • Field Day

MR. GETCHELL DAY

I walked into school on Wednesday morning and the first person I saw was Mr. Ryan. I asked him why he was dressed up and I soon discovered that many staff and students were dressed like me!! It was a complete surprise and so cool to see so many students and staff wearing dress shirts, ties, and flannel shirts while wearing a Mr. Getchell ID badge. I took a photo with all the Mr. Getchells in Mrs. O’s class and all the sixth graders! What a fun day at CME!

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

As we approach summer and with kids spending more time outside, I wanted to take a moment to encourage you all to chat with your kiddos about safety when riding bikes, and scooters, walking across the street, etc. With the tragic loss of a young man in middle school earlier this year, it is always a good idea to spend a few minutes discussing safety with your children. Thank you!

TEACHER AND STAFF APPRECIATION

Boy, our CME staff has been spoiled this week. For Teacher and Staff Appreciation, our CMEA and many of you provided such yummy treats, breakfast, and lunch items throughout the week. I think I have gained five pounds this week!! Staff were also able to get a quick massage which was a delight! Thank you for honoring our amazing CME staff this week. You all always go above and beyond!!

STAFF ASSIGNMENTS

I am thrilled to share that all of our teachers and classified staff will remain in their current positions as we move into next year, except for one at this point. Mrs. Tauro is leaving Copper Mesa to pursue her dream of opening an art studio where she will teach art to young and old alike. Jennifer will be greatly missed at CME as she has guided the students to do amazing art projects during her time here. We all wish Mrs. Tauro the best!! Of course, if anyone wins the lottery and moves to Fiji, we will let you know!!

iREADY END OF THE YEAR DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT

I am thrilled to share that most of our students made excellent growth on their iReady diagnostic assessment in both math and reading. While we receive CMAS data in August, iReady data is instant and I had many students share the percent of growth they made from the beginning of the year assessment. Way to go CME students!

FIELD DAY

You’ve got to love the weather in Colorado!! With the rain and cooler temperatures, we are going with our make-up Field Day which is next Friday, May 17th. Hopefully, all of you who volunteered to help out tomorrow will be able to do so on the 17th. A huge shout out to Mr. Novak for his flexibility and desire to put on the best Field Day on the planet!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our amazing moms!!

Teacher appreciation week is May 6th-10th and Regan's Coffee Cart has something extra special that you can purchase for your child's teacher! They are insulated and in our school colors! The symbol on the top of the design is a heart with the infinity symbol which is the neurodiversity symbol with love.
