News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

I hope you all had a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving with your family and loved ones! We had all of our kiddos over for a Thanksgiving brunch, and I personally loved it as it was great to have everyone together and we had lots of bacon!!!

Our PRIDE Skill next week is: Productivity

This week I will mention the following:

  • Turkey Drive

  • Toiletry Drive

  • All Pro Dad’s Breakfast

  • Book Fair

  • Look For The Good Program

  • Adopt-A-Family

TURKEY DRIVE

Thank you to our awesome community for donating frozen turkeys to the Denver Rescue Mission. We collected 94 turkeys! I am sure we made many people very thankful on Thanksgiving! A huge shout out to our Student Leadership Council (SLC), led by Mrs. Lagodny and Mrs. Broomhead for coordinating this event as well as Melissa Park for bringing it to Copper Mesa.

TOILETRY DRIVE

I will be dropping off all of the toiletry items that we donated on Saturday. Thank you to all of you who were able to drop off items during the One Book, One District Toiletry Drive. I am sure many people will be grateful for the donations.

ALL PRO DADS BREAKFAST

A huge thank you to all of our dads who arrived early for our first All Pro Dads Breakfast gathering. They were busy making sausages and pancakes and we thought we had made enough. However, we had a long line of dads and their kiddos, so they got busy again mixing the pancake mix. Everyone had a chance to eat and then I shared 10 specific ways we can compliment our kiddos and then dads shot some hoops with their kids and others visited the book fair. We will have our next gathering sometime in the spring.

BOOK FAIR

Speaking of the book fair, we had another very successful one! We even raised more money than this time last year!! Thank you for not only supporting our school but more importantly advocating for the love of reading with your children. I can’t wait to see what new books we will now be able to purchase.

LOOK FOR THE GOOD PROGRAM

We had our first assembly of the year at the end of the day yesterday. Our SLC and Mrs. Lagodny shared all about the Look for the Good program we will run until our winter break. This program is all about showing gratitude to others and being grateful. We have a wall near our cafeteria designated as our Gratitude Wall. This is where students and staff members will write a word or phrase of gratitude on a Post-it note and display it on the wall. We hope to have hundreds of notes posted for all to read!!

ADOPT-A-FAMILY

Just a reminder that you are encouraged to adopt one of our Copper Mesa families for the holidays. What an awesome way to help support one of our own families and for them to have a bit brighter holiday season. Check out the CMEA blast as to how to adopt a family.

Happy December 1st tomorrow - yes, it is already December!

SSN PROJECT -

The SSN (significant support needs) students and staff are taking on a Holiday Project this season! We are collecting treats, toys and beds for the dogs at Freedom Service Dogs!

The dogs at Freedom Service Dogs are service dogs in training to support individuals with disabilities as well as individuals who are retired veterans. We are looking for donations of dog beds, dog treats and dog toys to give to this life long friend! The best part, we, the SSN program, are taking a field trip to Freedom Service Dogs in December so our students in the SSN program can meet these incredible dogs and give the dogs their gifts as well!

If you have NEW dog toys or beds and want to donate them please bring them down to the SSN room. Dog treat donations need to be unopened in order to safely give them to the dogs.

We are always accepting gently used dog beds and toys to donate to freedom service dogs :)

Thank you so much for your support!
