News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

Well, is it going to be the same old Broncos this season?? I had high hopes for their first game against the Raiders, only to be disappointed!! Maybe this weekend!!

Our Thinking Map for next week is: Brace Map (Part/Whole relationship)

Our PRIDE Skill next week is: Communication

This week I will mention the following:

  • CMEA

  • Outdoor Ed

  • Color Run/Picture

  • SAC Mtg

CMEA

On Tuesday evening CMEA held its first meeting of the year and the main agenda item was to chat about staff grants. I don’t want to say too much as I would assume CMEA will discuss it in their blast, but wow, we have an amazing community and CMEA. Many field trips were approved, as well as classroom materials, and sensory items for our special education staff and we are looking at adding sports netting around our turf as several balls a day go over the wood fence. These are just a few of the items that were approved. This wouldn’t be possible without your kindness!!

OUTDOOR ED

So many events warmed my heart these last several days while our sixth graders were attending Outdoor Ed in Larkspur. On the last morning, I overheard a student say that he didn’t want to go home as he was having so much fun. I saw our boys congratulate a student for holding the longest plank while in their cabin. The director shared that our group of students was amazing! I observed students overcome their fear by tackling the ropes course. New friendships were formed, many high fives were given and laughter abounded the evening of the campfire. This is an event that our sixth graders will never forget!!

COLOR RUN/SCHOOL PICTURE

With the rain coming in we are going to postpone our Color Run until Monday afternoon. Ms. Laviaguerre and I are looking forward to running through all of our students as they splash us with some color. However, we will still have our school picture on Friday afternoon (weather permitting), so we are asking that all students wear their new green CME shirts.

SAC MTG

We also have our first SAC meeting of the year, next Monday from 4:00-6:00 pm in our library. These meetings are always open to everyone. Thank you for taking the time to vote for our new members. We will be looking at our school CMAS and iReady data as well as discussing several other agenda items.

Enjoy the upcoming beautiful weekend!!

COFFEE CART -

We run a coffee cart at our school that is put on by our Significant Support Needs Program (SSN). We have the Coffee Cart every Thursday morning from 8:15-9:15. We serve all staff around the school hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and seasonal items. We also have fresh baked goods that we serve to the staff as well.

We would like to open it up to families to purchase Coffee Cards ($20 for 11 beverages) and Baked Good Cards ($10 for 10 slices of baked goods) for staff all around the school. You are able to do this through MySchoolBucks and make a note for who the card(s) are for.

The Coffee Card raises money for the SSN program as well as for Freedom Service Dogs. Last year we raised over $400 for this organization. We are hoping to reach a goal of over $500 this school year. Thank you for all the support to give our students success!
